  • arlettde If you have a cast-iron kettle with a good quality gun that could have been maintained well, the whole system as long as 50 years. Sure, you should replace the nozzle of each year, you may need an ignition transformer or motor clutch replacement - or even the weapon itself. But every bit of the boiler should last 50 years or even more.

If you have a steel tank - at 25 years you are at the boundaries. With 28 years it is * very * lucky. Plan to replace soon - see below.

If you have an oven - at the age of 28 you are very lucky that it took so long. Plan to replace soon - and you could consider it before the season starts and before it is an emergency, so you have control over the process (three bids, three contractors, same equipment, same specifications, fully insured, licensed, and so on).

By the way, to 28 years, the best you can be seen in the position of the unit is at about 75% efficiency - at best. Newer devices running in the low 90s, and coupled with the cost of oil with the age of the boiler with the rest of the Federal Republic of tax incentives to new units, this is the time to change.

  • The life expectancy of an oil-burner is 20 to 25 years, I think you should plan to save it with an energy-efficient oil burner and not wait until he finally replace the pack. Fortunately, HvacMechanicalSystems.com Source (s): www.HvacMechanicalSystems.com Answering questions in Maintenance and Repair Need replacement costs for 25 + y/o oil furnace in the crawlspace of my three-bedroom rancher, approx. 2500 sqr. ft? Continuous operation of a ground-Lasko 3300 Fan? Whirlpool gas oven not working? What grade beam size for a deck?
