Do I need a new water heater?

I'm always brown (ish) hot water from all my faucets ... clear, cold water. Do I probably need a new water heater? Or ... there is a possibility that some of the pipes are corroded, and that's what the reason? I

  • arlettde the WH would be the benefit of the doubt. Run the hot water until it is cleared. The question is to solve what disturbed the sediment? Was there an activity in major sanitary places? Under the house, the heating itself, or perhaps work out side of town. Every drop of fluctuations in pressure? I do not want to give you advice all bad. The last time I used the wrong plumbing answer I was subject to a plumber Inquisition. lol electricians say "well, if you do, this will happen" You stupid plumbers nail on the wall and try to sound like. I am therfore to check for updates to all sinks, Clock Good Luck

Emptying of the tank will not solve any problem. It Had to say just when the rust in the tank or in your hot water pipes. you never know. Some electricians may have used it for an electrical ground.

Mr. Danny has the best answer.

  • 2 and 2 is 4, when the cold water side is clear and clean and you get brown water from the hot side, I would say that the victim-rod is gone and now the lining of the tank is rusted.

  • Perhaps not build brownish water in hot water tanks. The faucet at the bottom of a hot water tank is so that you drain it and keep the brown stuff you accumulate. You should a garden hose to fix it and run water until clear, once a month through the valve is of course no one does. If you do a new tank, some have set the whole house filter on the supply line, a pre-filter, an activated carbon filter with scale inhibitor and a post-filter will greatly reduce any calcification. You might want to put the filter on the whole house, but it's a bit of a waste for the toilets and showers. Hmm
