I renovated my kitchen, no new equipment supplied by the contractor, with the exception of a microwave hood. It is only costs under $ 30,000, so I was really expecting a beautiful and functional kitchen. And I have no dishwasher, so my sink is very important to me. My contractor broke my granite counter top in two, right through the hole for my drop in sink, but installed it anyway, while I was at work. No warning or discussion, before he did that. The two pieces are misaligned by 1/16 inch in front and the crack itself is 1/8 inches wide in front with a large, irregularly lined filled out area. He says it will look good when he polishes it, but he already had the sink and plumbing installed without polishing. There is already a prominent joint in the counter top, but in contrast to the joint, the crack is in a highly visible, high-use area. My client says that all the granite breaks so and he absolutely refuses to replace them. He claims that this is common practice that crushed granite is no big deal. Is this really true? Is it really normal, broken desks, without even telling the client you will do this before you install it? I would have never agreed to a granite counter top, if I had known granite was so fragile. The crack looks ugly and I'm worried that the time passes, it becomes even wider and that the glue will wear down faster than the granite itself
