I have an 8-month-old Leo in a 23 "by 15" viv and I have a heating pad that covers almost half of the viv, I also have a red lamp with a dimming thermostat on the opposite side of the heating pad, which i normally heating pad off in the morning and turn the heat on the red light bulb, should I keep the heating pad on both day and night? do if I do, that they tend to have a cold side, as the bulb warms up the other half of the viv and so real, they would both sides are warm, not sure what is best for the

Based on the rest of the context, I am assuming is a lion, a lizard, probably a leopard gecko.
Do not overheat the whole viv - a few keystrokes we had "Vivarium", now that it is not too heavy? - Because when your pet is overheated it not to go anywhere to escape to, as you already recognized.
What I was done in the past with an iguana and a snake, just a hot rock to provide 24/7, and a cool heat lamp near the ocean in daylight. Then they could slip to consider the most convenient place as necessary. The Dimming thermostat is a good score for additional fine-tuning the environment for your pet. But do not worry too much about "keeping warm on both sides" in this case, geckos are not as big and not good with heat from one side only. Consider this: according to daylight in the wild they rely on and that may surface in which they heat on the left side, and that only the belly heat.
