« What causes clothes to get yellow stains on the outside of them (not shoulders)?Cement masons is good work? »

How to paint a room (and do it well)?

I know we may sound stupid, but we have never painted. So what are the first steps that we use?

My room:
2 walls dark purple
2 walls white

My painting plans:
One wall dark gray (old purple wall)
3 light blue (old white walls and a purple wall)

How bright blue to dark purple color?

Will the one wall, the color of light blue to purple, a darker blue than the blue light is to be white?

As prime?

How much paint? (Two 10x10 room)

Well as on tape?

How many layers? They have to be exact? (What, what, when, if I paint it? Intersect If that does not make sense, nevermind)

All supplies will I need and steps will be great!

  • arlettde Get 3 gallons and 1 gallon light blue dark gray.

The gray was covered with a thick coat, but I doubt it covers the light blue so that it need 2 layers on the purple wall safe.

I would not of primers, because its not new worries and cares suck dry the paint.

to tape a little pull from the roll 12 "or so, with one finger to press down on the starting point with the other hand, pull the tape taught lay the tape as you would a ruler and press with your finger just to the new point, do so in 12-16 "increments. Essentially only push (fixing) of the tape every so often then after a few patches smooth between the "points" to continue this way down the line, when you get to the end before you tear off and then go back and make a small cut extra band is removed with a razor blade.

Ok, so the room is turned off with a brush and tape now "cut in" the walls about 2-3 "from ceiling to floor, all the corners and around windows and doors. Oh yeah, and always with the tip of you bristles, do not press hard on all of the brush or push it on the page hold it vertically on the wall

Now for the rolling, receive a roller tray and fill it halfway, dip your roll and slide it to end for the bowl and roll it back toward the color, no pressure, you want to fill it, next step hold the poles of the roll and begin about 2 meters from the base, roll down to the base and then to the ceiling more pressure as you get to the ceiling. Make your first band a few feet from the corner. Once you reach the top of your stroke again dip the roller and repeat. You want to apply more pressure on the leading edge of the role and less on the wet edge. They have a slight over lap, but not abandoned bold. It takes a while to get used. It might look strange at first glance, as it dries but when its all done will be great. You can see a light and get it close to the wall and nothing.
with a 3/4 "nap I can get 2-3 strips to dip into, depending on the color

if you roll it all fast and crazy shows.

There are, I like to paint.

  • with color change you should prime. Primer goes on to paint with. It provides a consistent interface for the color to go, this means that the old paint does not affect how the color looks new, and it means that the new color will look like it looked in the sample that you did.

Before you is prime, you have to spackle. Buy a 2-inch scraper to apply it with. Fill any holes or dents leave with her dry, sand lightly with fine sandpaper until you do not feel or see the edges. No dust filler dust from the walls, paint before you begin.

You will probably need two coats of your color. Sometimes you can get away with less, but two gives you a much better chance of a good cover and I would never rely on a layer that enough for a good-looking finish.Primers may be closer to a shade of your color, your chances are increased to a good tinted cover in one coat. The second layer concerns all areas that can not get full coverage for the first time. Overlapping along the edges, where you paint is in order, although this can not be helped. Just make sure not to leave ridges thick paint everywhere. This show. Whatever you do, it must be smooth. Your first layer should look like maybe not so good, it goes through the time of the second layer it all outside. Measure your walls. A 10 x 10 room has four walls, each 10 'x 8', which is 80 per square meter wall, a total of 320 square feet per room ist.Eine gallons paint typically covers 300-400 sf to buy good quality paint. It's worth a little more money. Read the label on it.

Use green or blue painter's tape. Band by stretching the tape evenly as you go along, what are you taping down firmly on the edge that are painted. Remove the tape once the paint is dry, and pull off the color, when you remove it. Leave them more risks remain with it too well.

If you have Google or something like "how to use a paint roller," there are videos showing how to properly apply to paint with a roller. An extension stick that screws into the roller handle, even just a few meters long, the role is very much easier to use.

    Accessories:
Roller tray you really only need one. I stuck with aluminum foil blanket from the kitchen, in space and along the joints. This way you can slide from the tray when you are finished with this kind of color are and line them fresh for the next article

I also use foil to the edges of the cans of paint when I paint from scooping to cover put it into the roller tray. Avoid getting paint all over the rim of the can and dripped on the label that you can refer to a later date to meet. I use to get a cheap plastic kitchen ladle, to the paint from the can to the roller.

Roller handles and wheels. Buy the role of your wall space suitable for one to paint for each type or color. For a primer to paint one for each color. Do not bother washing out to use again. Waste of time and water, and they are never the same again. When you are finished with the paint roller that was used, you throw it. If you are using, the color again, firmly wrap the roller in a plastic bag or two, and it will be good to use again even days later. Plastic bags fit just right.

Brushes. Buy decent people and treat them well, and they will last through many paintings. Budget work will bring frustration and not so good. A 1.5-inch wing brush is probably the most versatile and useful for painting trim edges and if you buy only one brush. Synthetic brushes are best for color on water-based. Wash it properly and thoroughly when you're done with him for the day, and. Even in between, if you are on a hot day painting and drying the paint on the brush when it is washed properly, wrap it in a piece of kitchen paper, so that the bristles remain straight as they dry.

    Odds and ends:
Wrapping paper and tape. Cover the bottom and all that you do not want paint on. Drop cloth boards are better, nice screen, but old sheets or plastic will do. You need not cover the whole room when you are painting the ceiling, only the soil under the wall you are working. Keep a damp cloth sprayed with you at any time and immediately wipe up drips or while they are still wet. And if you goof and get a little color where it should not actually go, you can wipe it and try again. A few sheets of cardboard or an old box is a good place to start your can of paint and that's where you go to fill the role tray. Keep it in a corner where you can not trip over it.

Some people like the edges and corners (referred to as "cutting in") is done first, as do some of them after rolling. It does not really matter. Once it enough to paint, you should not be able to make a difference between the rolled and brushed to see parts.

They will probably give you stir sticks, if you buy the paint, and if they do not give you a paint can opener, buy one. Answering questions in Decorating & Remodeling What is low carpet?
